UNIK Muse : Talisha Plumain on motherhood, holistic health, and prioritising self care.

Sometimes you meet people along the way who truly inspire you. The beautiful Sydney-based entrepreneur, health-conscious woman, and luminous Mama Talisha Plumain are one of these people. We loved connecting with Talisha to talk about the most important things in life: love, family, health, happiness, nature and, of course, her little baby boy Mateo.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, where you are from, where you grew up, and how that shaped you into who you are today?

I currently reside in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in Little Bay, with my fiance, son and fur baby. My background is French Caribbean / Australian. I grew up in a small suburb on the coast, just outside of Newcastle. I've always been an ocean babe, for as long as I can remember. I competed in a lot of water sports in my younger years and this really laid the foundations of my journey into holistic health, fitness and my desire to spend my days with a book by the water.

You seem to take life in its stride, approaching new situations in a calm confident manner, is this something inherent to you or was it taught to you from a young age?

The vibe of my childhood home was pretty chill and my parents always took life in its stride, which is definitely something that has naturally been woven into my way of being.

I'm always looking to expand my emotional awareness, observing my actions and reactions so that I can approach new situations and experience life in a calm
manner. I also learn a lot about myself in this way. As a general I love taking a leap, being open to new experiences and living for the moment.

We had the privilege of doing a photo shoot with you in your final weeks of pregnancy and you were just so stunning with your beautiful bump! How has life changed for you since becoming a new mum and do you view the world in a different way now?

Life has changed so much, in the best possible way.
Each day, every moment, I have learned to cherish so much more, as I watch Mateo growing and changing, I recognise how fleeting these moments are, not just with him but with the whole of life itself. He is my perfect reminder, to bring me back to the present and enjoy these moments I get to endure, even the challenging ones. My world has changed in ways that I struggle to put into words. I just experience life through a new lens, I feel more confident, grounded in the woman that I am and certain of my choices, it’s beautiful.

We know conscious living is a big part of who you are, can you share with us the most important steps you’ve taken to live a mindful life?

One of the most impactful steps I took to living a more mindful life was discovering the potency of plant remedies and how they can assist in every area of bodily functions. I learnt from my mum as she would always be making home remedies. This led me to slowly start learning how to create for myself, integrating natural products into my skin care and throughout the home.

Another was becoming aware of the food I was consuming, what it’s made of and where it comes from. This one is very important to me because I like to feel good from good healthy foods.

And next is meditation, my favourite, very inconsistent nowadays, but life changing. Mediation enabled me to become more observant, calm, have more patience, and make more conscious decisions throughout the day.

Where is your happy place?

Oh that’s easy! Catch me by the ocean, basking in the sunshine. That is my happy place. The salty sea breeze and the sun on my skin.

Sometimes I like to find a hidden spot around the rocks and dance with the wind and the symphony of the ocean. Such freedom found at the edge of the vast sea When I dive into the water, I literally feel my heart open every time. I feel weightless, calm and cleansed

Can you share your daily self-care routine with us, and has it changed since becoming a mother?

My daily self care routine has become more important than ever since becoming a mother. I have a few rituals that I prioritise so I can show up to my family and the day in a way that feels good to me.

Most mornings I like to start with yoga and a gratitude practice of saying things I'm grateful for, for at least 1 minute. Gratitude is something I always try to bring myself back to throughout the day. A walk outdoors with the fur babe is essential for the mind.

I write one full page in my journal each day of self motivation, kind words and affirmations.
I'm always dipping in and out of and adding different self care practices to my routine, I just do what feels good, but these few things I have stayed super consistent with which I'm really proud of, they make a huge difference to my day.

What is something your mother taught you that rings true and still resonates with you today?

To always see the good in people. My mum has taught me a lot of valuable teachings, but this is something that resonates with me right through to my core.

We always find mothers in business and female entrepreneurs so inspiring; can you tell us a little bit about what you’re working on right now, and the plans for the future?

I am currently in the midst of launching a new online business, Meraki Space, with my beautiful sister in law. We are creating a dream apothecary together, sharing the wisdom of plants through natural remedies, skin and hair care. Very exciting!! There are lots on the cards when it comes to plans for the future, I have so many incredible ideas! especially in the holistic health and wellness area. I am dreaming wild, big and limitless.

Who and what inspires you?

I am so inspired and motivated by women doing what they love, being their authentic self, bringing other women together, empowering each other and the collective feminine energy.

What are you listening to at the moment, music or podcast?

Mhh, alot of deep house music!

Listen to one of Talisha's playlists here.

How are you planning to spend your first Mother’s Day?

We will probably have a little afternoon picnic at the beach and some quality family time with my loves.

What are your favourite UNIK pieces?

I love the kidd boiler suit. It is definitely a favourite. It's so versatile, chic and comfortable. It's easy to unbutton and breastfeed in as well, which these days is a must have in my wardrobe.

Also the Anya shell kimono, absolutely love this for all occasions! It’s so unique and can really make an outfit look incredible.
