Through the Lens: Léa Campbell on Capturing UNIKSPACE in Scotland

For our recent Editorial in the Scottish Highlands, we had the pleasure of working with photographer Léa Campbell. Known for her natural, documentary-style approach and use of medium format film, Léa captures imagery that feels both intimate and timeless.

With only 10 frames per roll, her process is deliberate — an art form in itself that aligns with our own values of mindfulness and intention.
We sat down with Léa to learn more about her journey, her creative process, and her experience photographing UNIKSPACE against Scotland’s rugged backdrop.

To start, could you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a photographer?

I’ve been shooting for around ten years, and I tend to drift between different photographic genres, ranging from documentary and journalistic to fashion and travel.

For a long time, photography has been my means of connecting with others and forging an intimacy with my subjects. I’m generally driven by a curiosity about the human condition, and the notion of freedom is the main thread I see running throughout my work.

You recently shot a story for UNIKSPACE in Scotland. Can you share what drew you to the location, what you wanted to capture, and how the experience unfolded for you?

I lived in Scotland for 3 years and I think it’s a truly unique and magical place. It’s famous for its natural beauty and also it’s unpredictable weather - on shoot day we had lots of wind which made it challenging but very fun! It was unexpected but it brought a dynamism to the photos that made the collection shine.

You work with medium format film, which gives you only 10 frames per roll. How does this slower, more intentional process shape the way you approach a shoot like ours?

It naturally forces me to take my time with composing each shot, thinking about all the different elements: location, model, light, movement. It’s a really intuitive process and I usually follow that instinct - if it doesn’t feel like “the shot”, I won’t take it.

What drew you to working with film over digital, and what does film allow you to express that digital doesn’t?

It’s a completely different process and aesthetic, and for me it feels like a truer way of capturing the world around me. It’s also a nice conversation starter and a way to connect more with who I’m photographing.

Was there a favourite frame or moment from the Scotland shoot that stands out to you? What makes it special?

Definitely the photo of Layla with her arms outstretched in the wind, stood at the edge of the cliff. I love the slither of sea and vast expanse of sky - it’s like she’s stood at the end of the world. The wind was crazy that day, and seeing the movement through her hair and the clothes feels like a connection - or surrender - to the elements. There’s something so free about this photo.

Finally, what do you personally love about UNIKSPACE, and how did that influence the way you wanted to capture the collection?

I’ve always loved elevated simplicity and I think UNIKSPACE does this beautifully. The natural and organic choice in colours and fabrics feel really grounded, so the rugged beauty of the Scottish coast felt like a nice fit for shooting the collection.

Through her lens, Léa brought a sense of stillness and poetry to our silhouettes, reminding us of the quiet power of slowing down. We are grateful to have collaborated with her in Scotland and look forward to seeing the stories she continues to tell through her work.
