UNIK beauty : Aotea

Aotea is a therapeutic beauty brand from New Zealand crafting a range of health and beauty products hand made in Aotea (Great Barrier Island) just off Auckland.  They are inspired by the traditional herbal remedies used by the Maori people and support these remedies through scientific research. The island is covered in natural plant life, using 100% renewable energy to make their products, Aotea adhere to sustainability, by never picking too much from a plant and always leaving enough honey in their hives for the bees over winter.

Mānuka oil is a key ingredient in their skincare and is a natural disinfectant. 100% distilled from the Leptospermum Scoparium, or Mānuka Tree this oil is full of amazing natural properties. It is super anti-bacterial, has anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral properties as well as being a powerful source of antioxidants. Antimicrobial and deeply cleaning, Mānuka oil is shown to be 30x more cleaning than Tea Tree Oil, making it an extremely potent oil that rids bacteria that causes acne and psoriasis.
Use a couple of drops to rub your hands, wipe down objects or add a few drops to your liquid soap. A great disinfectant to use on broken skin, burns, abrasions, cuts and wounds. Keep a little bottle on hand and use throughout the day.

Famous for its medicinal properties, Mānuka honey is derived from the pollination of the flowers from the Mānuka tree.  It is extremely antibacterial and promotes healing. The glucose oxidase, which is an enzyme the bees add in the honey, reacts with the skin and produces hydrogen peroxide which naturally kills bacteria.  300+mgo Mānuka honey is jam packed with anti-microbial properties and active methylglyoxal (MGO) which aids in eliminating harmful microbes. Mānuka honey helps regenerate the skin tissues as well as speeds up the healing process. It can be ingested or used topically. Simply have a teaspoon of Mānuka honey, or add it to a cup of your favourite herbal tea. It is absolutely delicious and strengthens your immune system at the same time, keeping infections at bay.  A super useful product we should all have at home.

All Aotea honey is sustainably sourced and packed straight from the hives, raw and unpasteurised -  just as nature intended. Aotea only ever extract what the bees can spare, always leaving the majority of the honey on the hives for the bees.

Kawakawa balm is made from the Kawakawa plant which is native to New Zealand.  It has been used by the Maori people for medicinal and ceremonial purposes for generations and has an array of health benefits.  Kawakawa leaves have a super high content of anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and analgesic properties and are a key ingredient in the Kawakawa balm.  A native skincare remedy that promotes healing and maintains healthy skin with its 3 ingredients of Almond oil, Mānuka oil and beeswax from the Aotea hives.
Use Kawakawa balm as a lip balm, to relieve bites and stings, sores, nappy rash, eczema and the list goes on…  Kawakawa Balm deserves to be carried with you at all times.

Kūmarahou Soap is a gentle, healing hand and body wash. It is beautifully soft and 100% natural, so is perfect for those that find most soaps too harsh. It contains Mānuka oil which makes it naturally anti-bacterial without stripping the skin of its natural oils. It also contains Pomaderris Kumarahou which is a plant native to the North Island of New Zealand and possesses an agent called Saponin. This plant agent is a natural surfactant, meaning it can be developed into a soapy lather without the use of chemicals. The combination of Mānuka oil and Saponin makes for a super cleansing, 100% natural soap.

We have been loving the Aotea products and can not rave enough about the effectiveness of them all.  With such powerful natural ingredients sourced sustainably and made lovingly, this is beauty that is as good for you inside as it is outside.
Thoughtful skincare that’s good for you and our planet.
